Meet an AuthorRobert San Souci, former teacher, bookseller, editor, and theater critic, visited the Kindergarten classrooms and held two 50 minute assemblies for the lower and upper grades on Friday, November 14. It was a captivating talk from his early days of getting many rejections, working with the illustrators including especially his brother, to retelling of the classics. Afterward he signed books in the LRC. Twenty-one fourth and fifth grade students were invited to the Writers Workshop. They get a chance to submit a mystery story to Mr. San Souci that is set on an island with a brother and sister. “Reading and writing have always been an important part of my life: some of my happiest early memories are ones of being read to.” He authored over 80 books with subject matter dealing with history, biography, folklore, legend, fairy tale, retold classics, and nonsense. He was the writer for Disney’s Mulan and the book, Fa Mulan: The Story of a Woman Warrior. Many thanks to Mrs. Susan Kramer for organizing such a memorable event.
